Privacy Policy
This policy explains what FocusTube does with data today, what we do not do, and how that would change if we ship features that need network or community data. It is written to match the product—not a wish list.
1. Who we are
FocusTube is an independent product. It is not made by, endorsed by, or affiliated with YouTube or Google.
Operator: Yiling Labs (yilinglabs.com)
Contact: focustube@yilinglabs.com
This page is the single public Privacy Policy URL for the website and for in-app links under Settings → About & Privacy.
2. Summary
- FocusTube runs primarily on your device in Safari on youtube.com.
- We do not require a FocusTube account.
- We do not ship a third-party analytics or advertising SDK to profile what you watch.
- Purchases and optional iCloud settings sync use Apple services under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
- Some future features (if shipped) may query privacy-preserving community services; those are described as conditional below and are not claimed as active unless we update this policy and the product.
3. What we process today
On-device focus settings
Preferences such as Shorts control, interface cleanup options, and “Open YouTube to” live in local app/extension storage so the extension can apply them on youtube.com. These settings are processed on your device to provide the product.
Entitlement state (trial and purchase)
To run a 7-day trial and Full Access purchase, the host app stores entitlement-related state needed to know whether FocusTube may act on YouTube (for example trial timing and whether Full Access is unlocked). Trial timing is designed around your Apple ID’s entitlement, not a FocusTube login.
Optional iCloud settings sync
If you use iCloud and settings sync is available and enabled in the product, your FocusTube settings may sync across your Apple devices via Apple’s iCloud infrastructure. If iCloud is unavailable, settings remain local. We do not operate a separate FocusTube settings server for this.
Honesty note: If a build shows iCloud sync as “Coming soon” or hidden, treat sync as not active for that build even if this section describes the intended design.
4. What we do not do
- We do not require you to create a FocusTube account or password.
- We do not collect your YouTube watch history to build an advertising or content-recommendation profile.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not operate FocusTube as a service that works inside the official YouTube app—only on youtube.com in Safari.
5. Permissions & data
This section is what the app’s “Permissions & Data” entry is meant to cover.
Safari Web Extension
- Website access: FocusTube needs access to youtube.com (and related YouTube web hosts the product declares) so content scripts can hide or rearrange page elements according to your settings.
- On-device logic: Filtering and layout changes for focus features run in the extension environment on your device.
- No FocusTube login wall for core focus controls.
Host app
- Guides you to enable the extension, holds settings UI, trial/purchase surfaces, and shared storage with the extension (for example via an App Group where applicable).
- May use system purchase APIs for Full Access.
Data you should assume is processed by Apple when you buy or restore
App Store transactions, receipts, Family Sharing, and related purchase metadata are handled by Apple. We do not receive your full payment card details.
6. Apple services
When you download FocusTube, purchase Full Access, restore purchases, use Family Sharing, or sync settings with iCloud, Apple processes data under Apple’s own policies. Review Apple’s privacy information for App Store and iCloud.
We rely on Apple for those platform services; we do not reimplement them on a FocusTube server in the v1 design described here.
7. If we add features later
Some product ideas are not active in every build. If we ship them, we will update this policy and the product UI. Until then, treat the following as not current practice unless the shipping product and this policy both say otherwise.
Community title or thumbnail data (D6 — not locked)
If we enable optional community-sourced titles or thumbnails, FocusTube may send privacy-preserving lookups (for example hashed or K-anonymous style queries) to a community service to fetch replacements. We would not require a FocusTube account for that lookup path if the design remains local-first. Submitting data, if ever offered, would be optional and explained in-product.
Sponsor-segment skipping (SponsorBlock-class — not locked)
If we enable automatic skip of sponsor or intro segments via a community database, the app may query segment timestamps for the video you open, using privacy-preserving query methods where available. We would document the provider and opt-out controls when shipping.
Stronger player / ad reduction (D5 — engineering track)
If we ship player replacement or stronger ad reduction, that may change which page resources load in Safari. It is not a promise of permanent, total ad removal. Any new network or permission needs would be reflected here and in the App Store privacy labels.
Support contact
If you email support, we will process the content of your message and any diagnostics you choose to attach, solely to respond.
8. Your choices
- Uninstall the app and disable the Safari extension to stop FocusTube from running.
- System settings: revoke Safari extension permission for YouTube hosts; manage iCloud and App Store account settings with Apple.
- Purchases: managed through your Apple ID (including Family Sharing where eligible).
- Future optional network features: if shipped, we intend to keep them configurable or off by default where the product design allows.
9. Children
FocusTube is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us directly (for example by email), contact us and we will delete it where applicable.
10. Changes
We may update this policy when the product or the law changes. The “Effective” date at the top will change. Material changes that expand data collection should be reflected in the App Store privacy labels and, where appropriate, in-app About & Privacy.
